About World of Demri

I fell in love with Demri Parrott’s story as I was falling in love with the music of Alice in Chains and the 90s Seattle scene. Grunge was one of the few moments in pop culture where community was at the forefront; Bands would perform in laundromats for 25 cents or in hole-in-the-wall venues that the whole city frequented on the weekends. Demri embodied that spirit of community and love for friends and family to a T. I started my Instagram page in May of 2022 where I posted short blurbs of quotes and stories I found about her in order to spread more awareness of her beautiful essence. I then graduated to reaching out to old friend’s of hers to give true accounts of what she was like as a person. I aim not to glorify or sensationalize her, but to humanize and celebrate the way she interacted with art and the world around her. People believe that Demri was just a groupie who latched onto Layne’s success despite there being firsthand accounts of the opposite. Demri and Layne loved each other since the days where Layne lived in a band rehearsal space working as a carpenter and Demri worked at a clothing store in the mall. Their story, while tragically short-lived, is spiritual, genuine, and beautifully human. It is important now to preserve Demri’s story by recounting the love she gave to those around her and the lessons she taught and continues to teach us each day.
